SUMMARY:Canberra Big Data Meetup
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this exciting event with two insightful presentations:\nTitle: Apache Kafka\nAbstract: Apache Kafka is the popular message broker system developed and open sourced by Linkedin. You will learn how Kafka manages to ingest events from multiple data sources\, transform them as needed\, and make them available for any consumer application. We will discuss the core concepts of producers / consumers\, and explain how scalability and high availability can be achieved and explore several use cases where this technology has been successful.\nBio: This talk will be presented by Paul Brebner. Paul is the Technology Evangelist at Instaclustr. He’s been learning new scalable big data technologies\, solving realistic problems and building applications\, and blogging about Apache Cassandra\, Spark\, Zeppelin\, and Kafka. Paul has extensive R&D and industry experience in distributed systems\, technology innovation\, software architecture and engineering\, software performance and scalability\, grid and cloud computing\, and data analytics and machine learning (UNSW\, CSIRO\, UCL/UK\, NICTA\, and founder/CTO of a NICTA tech startup).\nTitle: Open [AI + Big Data + Security] = Advanced Cyber Security Analytics\nAbstract: Always wondered how artificial intelligence techniques like natural language could be applied to Advanced Analytics and Big Data? The combination of Big Data and Advanced Analytics promises to deliver deeper insights and faster\, more accurate responses to critical challenges like cybersecurity threats. However\, most products in this area (e.g. User and Entity Behaviour Analytics tools) are proprietary\, hardly customizable and require expensive/scarce resources for their configuration and usage.\nThis talk will explore a new generation of open source tools trying to address the above challenges including natural language interfaces\, Sql interfaces and rules engines. The talk will also analyse how the combination of these tools with Big Data technologies could help to address some of the biggest challenges in cyber security including the automatic response to cyber incidents and maintaining continuous compliance. A case study on the application of one of these technologies (the Open Intelligence framework) to ASD’s ISM controls compliance will also be presented. Finally\, they will be a short demo showcasing his integration with two mainstream Big Data technologies: Elasticsearch and Splunk.\nBio: This talk will be presented by Dr. Alonso Marquez\, Director of OpenIntelligence\, a local startup specialized in Artificial Intelligence and Big Data. He has an extensive background in R&D including a PhD in Artificial Intelligence/Business Rules\, patents and dozens of publications. He is also an experienced consultant with more than 20 years of experience in the IT industry; having held a wide range of positions ranging from security consultant to architect roles.\nPizza\, beers\, and soft drinks will be provided. We look forward to seeing you at the Canberra Innovation Network! \n
